Virginia Home Security Alarm Monitoring Q&A

How difficult is it to install home security system yourself? I am not an electrical engineer but have some basic do-it-myself knowledge. Also any ideas of what I might need to protect my house from burglary. And fire.
I'm going to be the cog in the wheel here. Yes it is fairly easy to install a security system. Hardwire does involve a little more time but is definately worth the effort. Wireless, particularly do-it-youself versions will leave you wasting your money. Anyone who tells you differently is trying to ... [full answer]
Know of any good home security systems? I need some advice about home security systems? I want to buy one that turns on the lights and makes a loud reaction and calls the police when an intruder breaks in. My partner found one that charges you $19.00 a month to call the police. I know that there has to be one that calls them for free. If you know of any please provide links. Thanks

What your friend found is a company that will monitor your alarm The monitoring company calls the police or whatever instructions you want them to follow. the 19 bucks per month covers the monitoring fee, the installation of the system is another story. ... What is the point of outdoor home security cameras? I desperately need security cameras because I don't feel save at my neighborhood but there is this bunch of kids of questionable characters hanging next door and how do I know that they won't use some stick or rocks to knock down my outdoor security camera? What about wireless camera? How do I replace batteries? Should I use landwire instead?
Isn't that the point of a security camera? If they use sticks or rocks to knock down your camera, won't you know who has been damaging your property?
