Minnesota Home Security Alarm Monitoring Q&A

Has anyone else had trouble with the APX home security system? We purchased a home security security system from APX in June. They have done nothing but charge different amounts than promised at different times in the month, messing up our family's finances. We are at the point of canceling the service and contacting the better business bureau! Any suggestions? At this point, I am more worried what being overdrawn will do to my credit, than what breaking contract with them will do. The bank is working with us to dispute unjust charges.
This should teach you not to sign a contract with a company who knocks door to door. If you signed the contract, and if the contract states that the rates might increase within the contractual time, than I am sorry, you are fresh out of luck and complaining to ... [full answer]
On a home security system monitored by a major company, would the in house siren go off even if you don't pay? I know the major alarm company would not monitor the home if you quit paying the bill or cancel service, but I think the actual sensors which are installed along with the in home hidden siren would still work. I'm asking this because the city in which I live does not send the police anymore to a home where the home security alarm has gone off. A rent a cop will be sent instead to the home, and then, if they see the house has been broken into, they call the real police. By that time your entire home could be cleaned out.
When you miss a payment, the alarms go off and the police and fire department come out to collect. OK, I'm lying.
I'm moving to a gated community in Oceanside, CA. Should I activate my home security system? My new house in CA is in a gated community (no guard on duty, but walls and a gate). My house already has a security system built in. Should I pay $29/month to activate it? Or is it not necessary? (If I activate it, I would get 15% off my home-owners insurance.)
Without a doubt. We also have a monitored system and it includes the ability to contact not only police, but fire and paramedics. Just because you live in a gated community in OCEANSIDE (I'm in Escondido) does not mean that your neighbors won't have visitors or workers that ... [full answer]
