Minnesota Home Security Alarm Monitoring Q&A

What would be the best home security gun for my wife? Could be from a handgun (most probably a handgun) to a shotgun. It will be for when Im not around and she has something to protect herself in the event. It must have the power to drop a thief in one round but no so much recoil she knocks herself on her ass an hurts herself.
.38 is bare minimum for self defense and that may not drop an intruder in one round. A compact .45 or .40 and practice, practice, practice. A 12G would be the best thing. With practice a small female can handle any size weapon.
OnStar home security system - can they listen in without you knowing? On a GE system home security system panel, which uses OnStar, can the security system or anyone else "listen in" to your home without you knowing it? I know , I sound paranoid, but I have no experience with OnStar or anything like it and the salesman said that when the alarm is tripped the operator will be able to hear basically anyone in my house. I'm just wondering if it's possible for anyone at the security company (which I'm afraid isn't the most reputable) or some type of "hacker" could listen in to my home without the alarm indicating this or without there being any other indication.
we have something like that but its life-alert, we have a box with a loudspeaker on it, its also attached to our fire alarm, as soon as the system is tripped on our end the loudspeaker turns "live" and the office can hear what is going on in our house ... [full answer]
What Home Security System do you recommend in the Hampton Roads area? Vector keeps stopping by trying to sell. They seem legit but I keep thinking of ADT. Just want to see what others use. Also what is the Norm for contract length?
I've had ADT for 10 years now and they have worked great. I think they require a 3 year contract. They do have a moving clause though so that if you move after 1 year, you can get them to give you a new system. Their monthly costs are listed ... [full answer]
