District of Columbia Home Security Alarm Monitoring Q&A

what home security system do you use? I'm about to move into a house and I am shopping for a security system. I'm thinking of going with ADT but I would appreciate input (serious input) from others who already have something in place.
Another option is to purchase a system, install it yourself without using a fully comprehensive company like Brinks or ADT. Then you purchase monitoring service for your system. Its a lot cheaper and you don't have to sign up for the same kind of contract. Good luck.
are you worried about home security since economy has been going bad? and what are you doing about it? I have a security camera on my drive way and Dobermann. But I really had it for the last 5 years. My dogs are trained guard dogs live inside with me. I do not have much valuables but passport and check book ... Yes, I have 24/7/365 time laps recording video with flat screen multi angles.
how will a security camera protect you from an intruder? Is it recording video?
home security? We live in Australia. You arent allowed to keep guns for protection. recently we had in our suburb a home invasion with a machete and sawn off shotgun. they havent caught the people. We have an alarm system but cant use it because of the cats. I get a bit scared sometimes because I feel we don't have enough security if someone came with a gun. We are thinking of installing a sensor light but are there any other suggestions to make your home safer?
Motion sensor lighting is a good start. Why can't you use your alarm system with the cats? If it is a motion reason, motion sensors can be programmed to ignore movement up to a certain size (my security system ignores my two 35 lbs dogs). A dog would help as well. ... [full answer]
